Fortnite: Battle Royale has taken the world by storm this year. It is a free-to-play battle royal game which was released on September 2017. Within a few months, the game gained traction and became one of the most watched games on Twitch, beating League of Legends and on Youtube, beating Minecraft, which were in the lead until then.
The success of the game resides in its gameplay, for sure, but the wave of influencers and celebrities that streamed their games had a huge impact on it : Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, Corentin "Gotaga" Houssein or even Drake (yes, I'm talking about the hip hop artist, not a gamer's pseudonym).
As you may know, we're fond of data at Digital Insighters. So we looked at stats on Fortnite. We saw some interesting data, but not everything was out there. So to obtain some of them, we collected Youtube data from January 2018 to today. You'll find the result of our search in the infographics below.
What strikes us ?
- Fortnite has passed the 125 million players mark. What's more important to say is that this number comes 10 months after its release.
- Fortnite generates a huge amount of videos on Youtube. We tend to talk a lot about Twitch stats these past few years, but Youtube has also a strong place in gaming and eSport. Just watch the stats : 17 billion total views !
- The number of comments and likes on Youtube are also impressive. Basically, for 1 dislike you have 18 likes.
- Fortnite has impressive stats on Twitch, the average number of viewers for a stream is 130K, while the peak of maximum viewers is 862K.
